I was once posed the question “If you were stuck on a desert island and could only bring 5 cds what would you bring?” I must say that the Get up Kids, Something to Write Home About, would be my number 4 choice. I was excited when they announced a year ago that they would be doing a reunion tour and re releasing Something to Write Home About with a DVD. Being from Kansas City I grew up seeing the Get Kids and to have a chance to see them reunite is exciting.

They opened the set with Valentine. Not only is this the opening track from Something to Write Home About it’s also the perfect opener. The power guitars behind it let any listener know there in for a treat. Over the next 2 hours The Get up Kids pleased fans with old and new songs from their entire discography. The Get Up kids performed Coming Clean off their first album, Four minute Mile so well you would thank they wrote it yesterday. Campfire Kansas was performed by Jim Suptic with just the electric guitarbehind him. Walking on a Wire ended the first part of show so perfect it left me wanting a powerful encore. The first song they performed in the encore was a cover of the Cure’s, Close to Me, which I have never heard them perform live. Matt Pryor is one of the few singers that can make a Cure song sound just as good as the original

The biggest surprise of the show was the new song “Keith’s Case”. It had the classic get up kids guitar licks with the classic Matt Pryor vocals. During I’ll catch you the fans carried the song as they belted their hearts out. They ended the set with Ten Minutes sang by Jim Suptic. With funny banter between songs you could tell the Get up Kids were having a great time.
