One look at this kid and it’ll shift your head. At 28 years old, Nate Smith is what you could call a Punk Rock Missionary. So where did his passion come from?

Nate grew up in Kansas City. At 13 he discovered his first punk band: Bad Religion. This would begin to be the basis of his passion for music and also the homeless. As he grew older, he began to pay attention to the lyrics sung in the punk rock scene. The issues that Bad Religion and other bands chose to sing about were new to him. He had never heard anything like this in the church, which he regularly attended.

Throughout high school the church had told him to change. Change the way he looked, the music he chose to listen to, and his view on life etc…. He set out to prove them wrong! He knew that God cared about what was in his heart, not how he looked or what he listened to or even who he hung out with.

At the age of 20, he moved to Huntington Beach, CA where he took a job as JR high youth leader position at a church. While he was there he finally got to show kids and parents that Punk rockers can love God and even teach his words, too. In fact this church even accepted the fact that Nate was a youth leader with a full sleeve of tattoos.

But yet again Nate was ready to take on the world. At the age of 24 he traveled the country in a ghetto 77 Toyota Camper. On this journey he carried a wooden cross in 30 cities and had the opportunity to speak 20 different times at churches and events. It was just before this journey that he met Carter. Carter and him shared some of the same views about God and a friendship was born.

Nate is currently getting married this summer to his girlfriend of 4 ½ years. His passion with Enoch is to interview bands, write articles and let Christians know it’s ok if you don’t always agree. Often, a disagreement can lead to a new way of thinking about your relationship with Jesus.
