Street Faith and the Worldwide Underground

About Us

About Enoch Magazine Enoch Magazine is a non-profit media movement, which documents the pulse of current culture and how that relates to love, faith and understanding. Last April, a team of 8 individuals from different cities and states joined together for an Enoch Documentary in Skid Row Los Angeles. We walked the streets day and night, spent time with the people and distributed food and water. Our focus in filming this experience was not to show what we had done, but to learn how outsiders (such as ourselves) could help. “What was the need in Skid Row? “
Carter Theis - Senior Editor Carter J. Theis carter@enochmagazine.com Read Carter’s latest article…
Man or myth? So many people today get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and love. Not this guy, he’s found himself stuck in a small southern town without any friends or family. The former Senior Editor of a real print magazine (which legally must remain nameless), this guy spends all his time filming people, events and issues. When asked why, “I do it cause very few people have my same eye and vision,” Carter explains.

Carter was formally trained in design and film at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His “eye or vision” as he puts it, is paying close attention to issues related to God, poverty, art and music. “I think there’s nothing better on this earth than helping people, but we all enjoy a good rock concert as well right?” Carter says. His passions lie in snowboarding, art, film and dj-ing records.

He explained the enochmagazine.com vision to punk-rock/evangelist friend Nate Smith, and long time partner of Enoch Clothing, Steve James. Both were on board, and along with a few other friends and helpers, Enoch Magazine started to generate content.

Carter plans to work on Enoch Magazine until his bank account runs dry, (which is pretty soon). So if anyone wants to help, please contact him, cause these guys live quite literally on coffee and free samples at grocery stores.

One thing that makes this magazine project so original is that it is completely open for public participation. “I hate it when organizations don’t make an effort to accommodate others who want to share their talents and thoughts. Certainly, some discernment is in order, but I have to believe that over time we will meet others who want to write articles and go on their own trips to document what God’s doing…But right now, as it stands, 7 people are on board.

If you have stumbled across enoch magazine, then you are in a special place! Please take a moment to watch a few videos or read an article. It may not seem like much, but the fact that it’s being done for free and people are sacrificing their time and credit cards should make the videos and their intentions a little more interesting!

Nate Smith - Managing Editor

One look at this kid and it’ll shift your head. At 26 years old, Nate Smith is what you could call a Punk Rock Missionary. So where did his passion come from?

Nate grew up in Kansas City. At 13 he discovered his first punk band: Bad Religion. This would begin to be the basis of his passion for music and also the homeless. As he grew older, he began to pay attention to the lyrics sung in the punk rock scene. The issues that Bad Religion and other bands chose to sing about were new to him. He had never heard anything like this in the church, which he regularly attended.

Throughout high school the church had told him to change. Change the way he looked, the music he chose to listen to, and his view on life etc…. He set out to prove them wrong! He knew that God cared about what was in his heart, not how he looked or what he listened to or even who he hung out with.

At the age of 20, he moved to Huntington Beach, CA where he took a job as JR high youth leader position at a church. While he was there he finally got to show kids and parents that Punk rockers can love God and even teach his words, too. In fact this church even accepted the fact that Nate was a youth leader with a full sleeve of tattoos.

But yet again Nate was ready to take on the world. At the age of 24 he traveled the country in a ghetto 77 Toyota Camper. On this journey he carried a wooden cross in 30 cities and had the opportunity to speak 20 different times at churches and events. It was just before this journey that he met Carter. Carter and him shared some of the same views about God and a friendship was born.

Nate is currently getting married this summer to his girlfriend of 4 ½ years. His passion with Enoch is to interview bands, write articles and let Christians know it’s ok if you don’t always agree. Often, a disagreement can lead to a new way of thinking about your relationship with Jesus.

Steve James - OG Web Guy
Steve could be a sword but he might not be. You’ll have to ask him. But if he is a sword, he’s a double edged SWORD. He saves Enoch time and time again, but he’s also missing 300 days out of the year.

This is him next to his mom, and Ya ladies… he’s available! Also, if you are reading this…email him and ask him why he isn’t fully committed to Enoch Magazine anymore…But really, Steve is the guy who got Enoch into the 21st century. So Thank You Steve.
